Course abstract
PWM VFDs are unique electrical devices that utilize high-speed switching technologies and power electronics that require a unique skill set in order to successfully apply and troubleshoot this type of motor starting. Understanding the VFD hardware topology, motor impact and load response is crucial to successful motor starting. Knowing how to program VFD I/O functions is essential for coordinating specified controls within any application. Above all, knowing how to work with VFDs safely is paramount if any work / troubleshooting is to be performed. Real world lab applications are used to conceptualize the topics and familiarize the individual with how VFDs actually respond and how the VFD and motor should be installed, programmed, and tested. Additionally, practical and safe approaches for troubleshooting are covered in addition to understanding fault data.
